COVID 19 Announcement:
We are all having to deal with the great changes that COVID-19 has made to all aspects of our lives. As has been said by many others we are all in this TOGETHER.
As the community restrictions begin to be eased in various ways and in different counties and cities The American Concrete Institute Southern California Chapter is starting to plan to recommence our Certifications programs. We had cancelled some March and all April, May and June sessions. We will recommence sessions in July, beginning with Field Grade 1. Sessions will be offered firstly to those who had been registered in the sessions that were cancelled. When much of the backlog has been addressed, we will be opening up registrations again. Some of the less populated sessions, e.g. Flatwork Finisher will be able to be posted earlier.
There will be changes to how the sessions will be conducted. The Chapter is observing CDC guidelines for the sessions as well as requirements in-place by the State of California. Precautions will include registrants completing a questionnaire about possible expose or symptoms, the taking of temperatures of attendees prior to entry to facilities. Wearing of masks and social distancing will also apply. The Chapter has commissioned a professional services company to sanitize facilities just prior to sessions and after sessions for the safety of our examiners, the session attendees and the staff of the facility owners. During sessions there will also be personnel present who will sanitize chairs, benches etc. on an as needs basis.
We are looking forward to the recommencement of our certification sessions and, also soon being able to conduct our other programs.
In the meantime, we ask everyone to be diligent about their own, their families’, their coworkers and the community’s well-being and stay safe and well.

COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the postponement of most ACI
Certification exam sessions, disrupting the opportunity for many
Technicians, Inspectors, Craftsmen, and Specialists to recertify. ACI
has taken the position that the Project Owner's Representative (Engineer
of Record, Specifier, etc.) is the proper entity to review a
technician's credentials and determine if a waiver of active
certification requirements is warranted/appropriate on a
project-by-project basis. Therefore, project owner representatives may
contact ACI Certification via email for information regarding
individuals not appearing on this list to assist the project owner in
deciding if they should apply any waiver. Please send inquiries to ACI.Certification@concrete.org.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
While ACI Certification has not extended any certification expiration dates during this time, we have adjusted the “in-process” date required to complete a certification, for those individuals who may have failed or not completed one portion of their certification (e.g., failed written exam and need to retake within 1 year of passing performance). All in-process dates previously expected to expire anytime in 2020 have been extended to December 31, 2020.
Prometric Testing Centers will begin phasing-in availability of ACI written exams beginning May 1, 2020, subject to state and local restrictions. Some SGs are already formulating restart plans that incorporate ACI University eLearning courses (Field Tech and Strength Tech are currently available) + Prometric testing to limit in-person contact. If your SG has not considered using these tools, please be aware that they are available.
Under NO circumstances should your SG rush to restart ACI Certification-related activities until all safety considerations have been addressed and agreed upon by your SG. As more information becomes available, new developments take place, and new tools become available to address the current challenge, we will be in contact with you.
Thank you in advance for your input!
